The Franklinville-Schwarzwald Männerchor, the only German men’s chorus in the greater Philadelphia area, is proud to announce our annual SPRING CONCERT!
Come and join us for an unusual afternoon of singing, dancing, and laughing!
There’s something unique and stirring about the sound of a male choir singing in four-part harmony. Celebrating the ever-hopeful return of Spring, this year’s concert features pieces by Carl Maria von Weber, Mendelssohn, and Beethoven, among several other composers. We will sing in both German and English, both classical and popular music.
The concert is conducted by our beloved and talented Music Director, Jacqueline Smith.
One of the Beethoven pieces will be the famous prisoner’s chorus from the opera “Fidelio.” We will also perform, among many other songs, the lovely and romantic “Beautiful Dreamer,” by Stephen Foster.
The men’s chorus will be joined by the ladies’ choir, the Damenchor Wald-Echo.
Each of the two choruses will sing several songs separately, and then join together to form a large mixed-voice chorus for the grand finale.
Audiences appreciate our entertaining and informative master of ceremonies, Kile Smith, who provides an additional dimension to the concert. Kile, for many years a radio personality on WRTI, and a noted composer in his own right, provides an explanation of the meaning of each song for those who do not speak German, and often some interesting background. Kile is the president of our chorus.
The concert is followed by dinner and dancing, with accordion music provided by Don Bitterlich. A variety of food from the VE Club’s kitchen is available for purchase, as well as a full bar.
Requested donation $12 per person for the concert, or $96 for a table of 8.
