Annual pilgrimage in honor of those who died after World War II in the camps of Yugoslavia and Russia and for those who were forced out of their homes in East Prussia, Silesia, Sudetenland, Bohemia, Gotschee, Baragan, Hungary, and Romania. The Franklinville Schwarzwald Männerchor will sing Schubert’s Deutsche Messe, a unique and beautiful composition, as part of a Catholic Mass service. The Deutsche Messe’s text is not the Latin liturgical text, but a sequence of poems in German by Johann Philipp Neumann who commissioned the work. It is also known as the “Wind Mass” due to its orchestration of primarily wind instruments. Censorship prevented the Mass from being used for Catholic Service; as an unauthorised German translation of the Mass, it was not approved for liturgical use.
Held at: Sisters of the Holy Redeemer Chapel, 521 Moredon Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. A unique and moving event. A simple reception in the church hall with coffee and pastries will follow the solemn Mass.
